Data Innovations Launches Lab GPS™ v2.3

Data Innovations (DI) announces the availability of Lab GPS™ v2.3. A fully cloud-based SaaS offering from DI, Lab GPS addresses the problem of lab downtime by empowering laboratorians with all-in-one connectivity monitoring, notifications, and troubleshooting.

Lab GPS v2.3 continues to focus on increasing connectivity uptime in the laboratory by enabling laboratory staff and LIS administrators to be more proactive in detecting connection issues when using Instrument Manager™ (IM) lab middleware.

Updates designed to improve alerting and ease of use in Lab GPS v2.3 include automatic Daylight Saving Time (DST) adjustments, which vary depending on whether the IM system is licensed for time zone support. For all IM systems, the time zone of the IM system server and connections will automatically be adjusted if DST is applicable to the particular time zone.

  • If Instrument Manager does not have time zone support licensed, all individual connections will follow the server’s time changes.
  • If time zone support is licensed, the server’s time zone and each individual connection will be evaluated separately to determine whether the DST time change applies to each connected instrument. This is particularly useful for enterprise labs using a single IM system to manage labs spanning multiple geographic regions in different time zones.

The automatic adjustments bring targeted benefits to Lab GPS users:

  • For Laboratorians
The “Last Transaction Time” on all accessible connections will now update automatically to reflect DST. This gives laboratorians accurate, real-time visibility into lab activity and aids in troubleshooting. Previously, laboratorians had to separately calculate how DST applied to applicable labs.

  • For LIS Administrators
With automatic DST adjustments applied to both transaction displays and time-based alerts, LIS administrators no longer need to make manual changes. Previously, LIS administrators had to manually adjust time-boxed alert settings to accommodate DST changes. The automatic DST adjustment enables LIS administrators to more effectively manage uptime and performance across complex enterprise environments, especially during seasonal time changes.

The newest version of Lab GPS also includes minor bug fixes to the mobile app, available as part of the Lab GPS subscription. Compatible with both Android and iOS devices, the mobile app is designed to give Lab Information System (LIS) support staff enhanced access to connectivity management. The mobile app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

Lab GPS is only available to direct Data Innovations customers in the United States and Canada using Instrument Manager middleware. Lab GPS is not available on business partner-sold IM systems.
